The 30-Minute Weekly Competitive Intelligence Review, With a Real Agenda

A concrete, runnable weekly ritual for acting on competitive signals instead of letting them pile up in a channel nobody opens.

Continuous monitoring solves collection. It doesn't solve action on its own, a Slack channel full of alerts that nobody discusses is barely better than no monitoring at all. The fix isn't a better dashboard, it's a short, recurring meeting with an actual agenda.

The agenda

  • Minutes 0 to 5: review this week's High relevance findings only, not the full raw feed. If nothing scored High, say so and move on, that's a real and useful outcome too.
  • Minutes 5 to 15: for each High finding, one decision, does this change a talk track, a deal currently in flight, or a roadmap conversation, or is it just worth having noted.
  • Minutes 15 to 25: a quick Momentum check, which competitors are heating up this week, and does that match what the room's gut feel already was. When it doesn't, that mismatch is usually the most useful five minutes of the meeting.
  • Minutes 25 to 30: log any new win/loss reasons from deals that closed this week, so next week's Momentum and relevance scoring stay accurate instead of drifting on stale data.

Who should be in the room

Whoever owns messaging and whoever's closest to actual deals, not a large cross-functional standing meeting. Smaller and more frequent beats comprehensive and quarterly here.

Why this sticks where a quarterly review doesn't

A thorough quarterly deep-dive is stale the day it's delivered, the same failure mode that makes most CI programs go quiet after the initial push. Thirty minutes a week compounds instead: it works directly off whatever's already landed in the Slack channel scored alerts get pushed to, so there's no separate report anyone has to prepare beforehand, just a standing slot to actually talk about what already showed up.
